Link to psychosis

AUSTRALIAN children who are physically and emotionally abused are 10 times more likely to develop psychosis as young adults, according to new Australian research. For the first time, researchers have found a clear link between maltreatment in childhood and the serious psychiatric illness. Psychosis involves a loss of contact with reality. In the study, children who experienced emotional abuse and neglect appeared to be particularly vulnerable to developing psychotic symptoms.
