Human form inspires creative group

THE human form is variously interpreted in KickArts Contemporary Arts’ exhibition Effigy.

The group exhibition is on display at the Abbott St gallery until May 20 and features both two and three-dimensional works from TBA Artist-RunInitiative members Tim Allan, Fiona Price, Pam Kusabs and Trish Delaide.

Visitors to the exhibition can see events described from newspapers recreated with papier-mache figures by Delaide, fashion sketches transformed into wire sculptures by Kusabs and the relationships and interactions between people examined by Price using paint.

Allan’s paintings reflect stained glass windows’ religious iconography and depict modern Madonnas.

The artist works in both abstract and figurative styles and said one of his aims in the exhibition was to attempt to bring the two together.

“Two of the works that I have on display are primarily portraits. The other two align more closely to the word ‘effigy’, as they are almost representational works of human figure,” he said.

“I think when working with the human form, the hardest thing to convey is the emotion of the subjects, whether it be between the subjects themselves or the relationship between the subject and their environment — the love of a mother for her child, the comfort of familiar surroundings.”

Entry to Effigy is free. the
