It’s time fans up here quit singing the blues

We have players out but the fact we can’t fit Slater in the side says a lot about quality

QUEENSLANDERS, just get a grip. You’re acting like a bunch of NSW fans.

We should have all wiped away our tears for Billy Slater’s Maroons omission by now and united against our common enemy.

That’s enough saying we should have done this or that – we’ve all got a right to an opinion – but the Blues are far too optimistic and we’re getting far too pessimistic for a state claiming 10 of the past 11 Origin series wins.

The mere fact Kevin Walters couldn’t fit Slater in his squad is testament to just how strong things are here north of the border.

I’ve seen some very disappointing comments from my fellow Maroons fans scattered across rugby league forums about how dire things are getting, a lack of faith in selectors and all this is just making the Blues and their fans more and more confident.

It’s too sincere for it to be all part of the jig of feeding the NSW ego to make sure we’re the underdogs we love to be.

Yes, JT is uncertain, but there’s 17 guys in our team that won’t let anybody down. Never have, never will.

The Blues on the other hand, well they’re just as flimsy as they always have been.

Great minds say a measure of a good team is one whose worst performance is not too far from their best.

With all due respect to the Blues, their worst is atrocious, while Queensland’s worst isn’t really that bad and their best is better than the best NSW can throw at us. Let me break it down: • Four of their players are from the Sharks, who are the most penalised team in the competition.

• Both their centres are fullbacks and one of them hasn’t played for two weeks while the other has only played in the position for two weeks. Brett Morris on the wing is in hopeless form.

• Mitchell Pearce. Sure, he kicked a field goal on Anzac Day but look at these stats; 15 Origins for one forced dropout, 49 missed tackles, four try assists and his long kicks have been caught on the full 77 per cent of the time. Need I say more. We’re a humble bunch and that’s a great trait, but come on Queensland, have a little bit of confidence in our boys when they hit the hallowed Suncorp Stadium turf on May 31.
