IT’S TIME TO PARTY
Town to shimmy into weekend of fun as Carnivale takes spectacular to next level
PORT Douglas could be confused for Rio de Janeiro when Carnivale takes over the town this weekend.
Circus cabarets, comedy shows and saucy burlesque shows will all be on the menu during the seaside spectacular.
Captain Frodo from the award-winning cabaret La Soiree said the whole carnival was a celebration of the weird and wonderful.
“Our show is amazing but a bit naughty. It’s a real latenight cabaret,” he said.
He said the crew picked up artists to collaborate with in each city they worked in.
“Who knows? In Cairns we might meet a crazy artist who might want to run away with the circus,” he said.
Carnivale organiser Melissa Head said the acts at this year’s event were world class.
“The circus cabaret was like nothing audiences have ever experienced before in Far North Queensland. Everyone loved it and the new show promises to be even more breathtaking under the big top,” she said.
She said the talent that would perform over the weekend-long spectacular was cause for celebration in the seaside town.
“Securing a major internationally renowned musician like Ben Lee to, not only perform, but host a workshop for local musicians is an indication of how Carnivale is evolving into a major national cultural event,” she said.
Port Douglas Mayor Julia Leu likened the Far Northern Carnivale to any of the country’s biggest festivals.
“Melissa and her team at Knockout Events are really taking Carnivale to the next level,” she said.
