The Cairns Post

On other matters

Re: Local Cairns (CP, 30/5). The majority of public servants let go by the Newman government were on a contract. I signed a contract in Brisbane which was not renewed or extended. I was not sacked. DB, Cairns I would love to see a new reality TV show featuring pensioners. Let’s call it How Do We Survive The Next Fortnight. Greg, Manunda Citizen (CP, 1/6). Sounds quite parochial. The Cairns Post is Tolga’s daily paper, too. If the best you’ve got is “attack the messenger‘s address” then you’ve got nothing. Miss T, Tolga Re: Electricity subsidy by state government . Creative accounting to pay the interest after they transferred government debt from state coffers to state-owned electricity utilities so they desperately hang on to keep credit rating. Now also have problems with 70 per cent increase in public servants. No wonder prices are going sky high. Someone has to pay. Bryan, Kuranda The government had its own insurance but sold it for short term gain. Smart, eh? Grey Ray, Holloways Beach Petrol prices: talk, talk and reports and more talk telling us what we knew. Queensland Government and ACCC toothless. RACQ also a big talker but can do something. Go out and run your own servos. You have the biggest membership in Queensland that will support you. Don, Earlville Naomi Wilson (CP, 1/6) states that Townsville will “magnetise” the cruise ships away from Cairns. No chance. There’s nothing to do there. Unless they want a drive up to Castle Hill, a quick boat ride to Magnetic Island or a visit to one of their newest shopping centres, they really have nothing to offer an international visitor. Townsville may not lure them but someone else might. Our visionaries will no doubt look at the problem when it’s too late and then wonder what they could’ve done. Mrs Daley, Earlville For game two, I think a lot of Queenslanders agree Thurston and Billy will be in. Who they replace? Who cares? Scottie, Bayview Heights
