Dashcam captures Woods’ DUI arrest
POLICE have released dashcam footage and audio of the moment they approached Tiger Woods unconscious at the wheel of his idling luxury Mercedes.
And new images show the extent of recent damage to the vehicle, which would have rendered it almost inoperable.
The professional golfer, 41, was arrested just after 2am earlier this week on suspicion of driving under the influence after he was found slumped in his car near his home in Jupiter, Florida.
When woken by officers, Woods told them he was returning from California, on the other side of the United States.
Authorities released a recording of the first responding officer approaching the car, which was found obstructing a lane on a deserted road.
They also released footage of the incident and of Woods struggling as he did field sobriety tests.
Police also made public photographs of the significantly damaged $300,000 Mercedes, which had two flat tyres, damage to the rims on the driver’s side and scrapes on the front and rear.
Official reports state that Woods slurred his words, didn’t understand requests being made of him and seemed unaware where he was.
While a breath test returned a zero reading, an affidavit stated that he failed four field sobriety tests and was on four prescription drugs, including Vicodin.
He also agreed to a urine test but those results have not been made public.
“Woods stated that he did not know where he was,” the affidavit said. “Woods had changed the story of where he was going and where he was coming from.”
Woods was also asked to perform a “Walk and Turn” and a “One Leg Stand”, but could not keep a starting position. At one point, police said the golfer appeared to be on the verge of falling over.
He also failed to pass the “Finger To Nose” test.
Woods also failed to finish the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus test as he “did not follow the stimulus”.
He then passed the Romberg alphabet test.
“When asked if he understood the Romberg alphabet test, he stated, ‘yes, recite entire national anthem backwards’,” the police report said.
Woods has apologised for his arrest, insisting that alcohol was not involved.
