LOUISE Orchard has taught in many schools across the Far North.

But the Trinity Beach State School teacher and Tropicarnivale committee member said her current school’s community spirit was unmatched.

“I teach at this school because I love it, I love the inclusive nature of the kids and the school community,” she said.

She said the school’s carnivale was just one way for the primary school to share its inclusive spirit with the wider community.

“We have our Tropicarnivale school fete every year as the biggest fundraiser for our school,” she said. “All of the money goes directly to the Tropical North Learning Academy, which gives our children educational facilities.”

She said the fete itself was in a league of its own.

“In 2016 we had 3000 people attend, and this year it’s going to be even bigger,” she said.

“We have $3000 in cash for our mega raffle, dodgem cars, more rides than you could name, and the night ends in a firework display. It’s for all of the community, so we want everyone to come and enjoy themselves as a family.”

She said without the help of the locals the children at Trinity Beach State School wouldn’t have the same opportunities now afforded them.

“During the last three years we’ve been inundated with support from the community,” she said. “The money that we’ve raised for the Tropical North Learning Academy has given the kids a new cooking area and a new grass area.

“There’s been phenomenal growth in the school and in the community around it.”

She said the culture fostered between the school and the outside community during Tropicarnivale was an extension of the school’s culture.

“We have a very big range of children at our school, it’s very diverse,” she said.

The Trinity Beach State School Tropicarnivale is on this Friday from 3.30pm at the school grounds on Wewak St, Trinity Beach.

The fete includes live entertainment, local markets, food stalls, showbags and a range of fun rides, with unlimited ride wristbands on sale for $35.

The evening will wrap up at 8pm with a fireworks spectacular for families to enjoy. If your school is hosting a fete this year, please let Northern Family know, email: lauren.dor@news.com.au
