Youngsters the benchmark for Dolphins

- JORDAN GERRANS

RACHEL Pryor and Alli Gloyd posted the big numbers but stand-in Dolphins coach Jenny Evans was most pleased with her young bench unit in their triumph over Toowoomba.

The winless Mountaineers were not expected to trouble the in-form Dolphins as the hosts made it four wins on the bounce in the QBL on Friday evening.

With coach Mark Worthington unavailable, Evans took charge on Friday night and wanted to give the emerging players on the bench an opportunity to impress.

All 10 Dolphins saw court time with Summah Evans, Elle Hutchinson and Serina Falvo receiving increased minutes after experienced forward Jade Kennedy left the court after rolling her ankle.

Kennedy played just 11 minutes in the victory with Cairns Basketball confident she will be right to go in Round 8.

“Elle Hutchinson has come into the starting five with Teyla Evans out and she is doing a fantastic job,” Evans said.

“Elle is always working hard at training and it shows in the games.

“Summah Evans came in during the second half after Jade went down and she did well with her opportunities.”

The Dolphins import, Gloyd, looks on the way to another QBL player of the week award after posting a rare 20-20 game.

The athletic forward dropped 24 points, on 11-21 shooting, as well as pulling down 21 boards while Pryor flirted with a triple-double in the win, falling two assists short.

The Dolphins now look towards host Rockhampton Cyclones, who are ninth on the ladder, on Friday night. Alli Gloyd — 24 points, 21 rebounds Rachel Pryor — 19, 12 and eight assists Myra Donkin — 13, 6, 8
