Teen facing court over bashing allegation
A TEENAGER is expected to appear in a Cairns court this morning charged with the vicious assault of a Woree man in a vacant block.
Ryan Johnson, 18, was left unconscious with a broken jaw after he was allegedly attacked by a group of males while walking through the block off Rigg St last Thursday afternoon.
He is waiting to find whether he will require surgery on his jaw and also suffered other soft tissue injuries.
Police launched an investigation and arrested a 16-yearold White Rock boy yesterday morning. He was found at an Earlville house and has been charged with robbery with violence.
Investigations are ongoing as detectives continue to search for others involved in the alleged incident.
Mr Johnson alleged he was initially grabbed and punched from behind before falling to the ground where he was repeatedly kicked.
His BMX bike and mobile phone were both stolen.
His bike was found by officers at an Earlville residence on Saturday night.
The Cairns Post understands it was the same house where the teen was arrested yesterday.
Mr Johnson’s uncle Eddie Shieffelbien said on Sunday they were initially contacted by someone via social media with pictures of the bike who allegedly asked for a reward in exchange for calling police and returning it.
There is no suggestion the person who sent the message was the boy charged yesterday.
