High-flyers of business
By Nevi Wurster and Kiara Brunker, Year 7, Cairns State High School
ECONOMICS and business students from Cairns State High School put their thinking caps on for a visit to the Cairns ZOOM and Wildlife Dome last month.
While there, the students from Years 7 and 8 learned about the business and its staff, and put themselves to the test on the low and high ropes.
AT the beginning of May, Year 7 and Year 8 economics and business students went on an excursion to the Cairns ZOOM and Wildlife Dome.
It provides a challenging rope course situated inside the wildlife park. On offer are high and low ropes, tramp jump, and high walk.
There is a variety of wildlife from the dangerous crocodiles to the cutest and cuddliest koalas. The Cairns ZOOM also has a souvenir shop, selling all types of things like T-shirts, mugs, animal teddies and toys.
We went to learn about the business.
The staff provided a very informative presentation regarding the type of business, their target market, the skills and qualifications of staff, as well as volunteering.
We brainstormed how the activities on offer at the Dome benefit Cairns and then completed a SWOT analysis.
It was soon followed by fun and nerve-racking activities across the low and high ropes.
Some people were extremely afraid, mostly by the big zip line over the top of a humungous crocodile!
By the end, everyone had a smile on their face. The experience was an amazing one, full of fun and educational opportunities.
By the end of the day, everyone’s head was full to the brim with new information but we would all love to repeat the activity.
