Cutters’ defence restricts undefeated Hawks

- JORDAN GERRANS

WHILE they did not kick a major themselves, South Cairns took a lot of positives from keeping the reigning premiers to just two goals in Round 4 of AFL Cairns Womens.

The Manunda Hawks remain undefeated but they did not have it all their way at Cazalys Stadium on Saturday.

The emerging Cutters outfit could not convert their own opportunities going forward but their defence was resolute to keep the Hawks to just two goals in their 15-point loss.

Kodi Wright-Ross and Rosalie Boden were the goal kickers for the Hawks but Cutters team manager Josephine Izumi was more than happy.

“We are getting there as a team and really improving every time we play,” Izumi said

“Kitara Farrar was great again for us.

“Kylie Banu is like a little pocket rocket.”

At Crathern Park, Centrals Trinity Beach claimed their first victory of 2017 with a twopoint win over North Cairns.

The Bulldogs took a 22point advantage into the final term but the Tigers came storming home with two last quarter goals from Hadassah Nicholson and one from Judy Duck.

The hosts did enough to hold on in the final stages with Emma Grahame, Brooklyn Lancaster and Ruby Nandy helping ice the game. In Round 5 games this Saturday, the Tigers host the Cutters while the Bulldogs travel to Cazalys to tackle the Hawks.
