TWO talented Far North young guns have earned the right to represent Queensland next month and they need your help in a bid to further their football education.

FNQ Heat academy players Mia Bailey and Shannon Docherty battled through a tough selection process in Ipswich last month to win a maroon shirt for the National Youth Girls Football Championships in Coffs Harbour and both hope to take the next step in their football career.

Fundraising will take place in the form of a trivia night at St Gerard Majella School on June 24 to support the trip.

Bailey, a goalkeeper, said the aim now was to get in the best shape possible for the national carnival and give her best for the team and any highprofile spectators.

“I think it’s a pretty good opportunity to play down at Coffs because there will be WLeague club scouts there,” she said.

Central defender Docherty was thrilled at that news and saw it as a great opportunity.

“Hopefully we can move from Cairns and further our football education,” she said.

Docherty expected Queensland to compete well against their southern rivals after a competitive trial process.

“I reckon we’ll do all right. From what we saw down there, we’re all pretty evenly matched, which means we work really well together, so that will be good,” he said.

“We have to our own training, not just with the ball, but also physically. They will be stronger than you sometimes, but you just need to work yourself up.”

The cost to enter the trivia night is $30, including hot and cold finger food.
