Tigers say forfeit just a one-off

- JORDAN GERRANS AFL CAIRNS

NORTH Cairns are confident their forfeited match against South Cairns on Saturday will be a one-off situation for the AFL Cairns Womens club.

The Tigers were forced to forfeit the Round 5 match with the Cutters at Watsons Oval on Saturday due to a lack of numbers.

The Tigers have been one of the standout teams in recent seasons, making last season’s grand final against Manunda.

Tigers president David Lee is hopeful the club will be able to field a team for every game in the remainder of 2017.

“It was just a lack of numbers,” Lee said. “Brothers had a bit of a rugby league carnival going on Saturday and a few of the girls play both.

“We are hoping it will not happen again, we will have a committee meeting this week and have a chat about it.”

The Cutters received their third win of the season with the forfeit that lifted them two games clear in second spot on the ladder.

In the completed game, an inaccurate Manunda continued their winning ways under lights at Cazalys on Saturday night against Centrals Trinity Beach.

In the final game of the Hawks first Indigenous Round, Rosalie Boden booted three goals to lead the Hawks to victory as Kareena White and Allira Grixti kicked one each in the win. Brooklyn Lancaster, Shanna Butcher and Alisha Rae Matthew were the best of the Bulldogs.

In Round 6 games this Saturday, the Bulldogs will be hosting the Cutters while the Hawks tackle the Tigers in the second grand final rematch of the season.
