Dolphins keep heads above water

BATTLING injury and unavailability, the Dolphins showed the development in their QBL program over the past two seasons as they just found a way to overcome a fearless Gold Coast on Friday night.

The Rollers have not won a game in 2017 and took it right up to the Dolphins, landing 11 first half threes to take a sixpoint lead into halftime after outscoring the hosts by 10 in the second term.

With Jade Kennedy out and Myra Donkin and Teyla Evans playing but still hampered by injury, the Dolphins were lifted by the consistent Rachel Pryor and unlikely hero Serina Falvo to pull out a 72-68 win.

Falvo hit two massive triples in the last 90 seconds of the game to hand the Dolphins their sixth win in a row.

“Serina was the saving grace really,” coach Mark Worthington said.

“For someone that is not known for their shooting, she came up massive for us and played some massive minutes.

“The positive is we have found a way to make plays in a tough game. That is a good habit to have when you are not playing your best.

“Gold Coast had not won a game all year and swung from the fences.”

Star import Alli Gloyd went for scans straight after the game with sore ribs after grabbing seven rebounds in 17 minutes.

The scans revealed just bruising with the club to make a decision later this week if she will play in the upcoming double-header away to Townsville and Mackay.
