Bullets display interest in Trice

BRISBANE have opened talks with reigning Taipans MVP Travis Trice about switching south to the Bullets for the 2017-18 NBL season. The Cairns Post can reveal the Bullets are actively pursuing the import point guard to run Bullets’ coach An- drej Lemanis’ offence next season.

The Bullets have spoken with Trice’s USA-based agent about crossing from the Far North to South East Queensland for a second stint in Australia.

Bullets coaching staff and players are aware of the club’s interest in the Michigan State graduate who starred for the Westchester Knicks in the NBA D-League once the Taipans season finished.

It is understood the Bullets are keen to add “quickness and impact” to their point guard position with one Bullets official describing Trice’s fit as “perfect” with the club.

If Trice does link up with the newest NBL club, he would add to the signing of new import Stephen Holt, who was a standout for Melbourne United in the 2015-16 NBL season, averaging almost 16 points and four assists a game.

Before Snakes coach Aaron Fearne departed for the NBA Summer Leagues, he said he did not have a planned meeting with Trice during his stay but expected to catch up with him.

In May, Fearne declared if Trice wanted to come back to Cairns, he would have him back for a second season.

The Taipans declined comment last night.

Meanwhile, Stephen Weigh will finish the QBL season with the Marlins after recovering from his foot complaint.

Weigh’s inclusion in the Marlins squad will end Alex Loughton’s QBL season. to
