BRAMWELL Station is expecting up to 700 four-wheel drives for its annual bush carnival.

Now in its fifth year, the Bramwell Cup Bush Carnival is four days of family friendly fun kicking off on Thursday this week until Sunday.

Carnival event manager Ken Godfrey said all the rooms had been booked for months, but that didn’t stop people from just driving up.

“We’ve got a huge camping area, plenty of toilets and showers,” he said.

Mr Godfrey said he was expecting between 600 or 700 vehicles this year to the 1330sq m property, which is located in remote Cape York about 207km north of Coen and about 625km north of Cairns.

“We had 500 four-wheel drives come through here on the weekend last year,” he said.

Mr Godfrey said, while there would be no animal events, the carnival would be action-packed with events for all ages.

The kids will be kept occupied with egg and spoon races, three-legged races, egg throwing, jelly eating and treasure hunts, to name a few.

While older kids and adults could test their skills with the bushman’s challenge.

Mr Godfrey said there would be fashion parades, adult and children tug-of-war challenge and non-stop music.

“People come from all over Australia. We’ve got people coming from Melbourne, South Australia, Western Australia,” he said. While others who were visiting Cape York had extended their stay once they found out the bush carnival was on.

“People come to the carnival once and they love it,” Mr Godfrey said. “I just love seeing all the people get together, reunite, say g’day,” he said.
