Traffic in Nicholls’ mindset

- CHRIS CALCINO chris.calcino@news.com.au

LIBERAL National Party faithful will get face time with Opposition Leader Tim Nicholls tonight after he touches down in the Far North.

The two-day visit comes off the back of a request from LNP candidate for Barron River Michael Trout, who wanted his party leader in town to hear first-hand about voters’ most important issues going into the election.

The Marlin Coast Bowls Club at Trinity Beach will host a community barbecue lunch with the would-be premier tomorrow to give residents a chance to hear about his plans for the region.

Mr Trout, who held the Barron River seat for a term before being toppled by Labor’s Craig Crawford at the 2015 election, said Mr Nicholls would hear about residents’ growing unrest over a severe shortage of necessary road upgrades.

“The people of Barron River want to be able to get to work on time and, with our school growth on the Northern Beaches, there is just so much traffic on a State Government road,” he said.

“When I doorknock the Beaches, the single biggest issue is road congestion.

“We are one of the fastest growing electorates in Queensland and there has been very little money spent.”

Mr Trout said residents could broach any important election topics with Mr Nicholls and his candidates.

“Community leaders will be able to let him know what their concerns are on everything from health and education through to road congestion and small business,” he said.
