Night markets arrest

FOUR men were arrested in chaotic scenes outside the night markets on Abbott St Cairns last night. It is believed a police officer was assaulted shortly before 7pm. Several police vehicles rushed to the scene as onlookers flocked to the streets while four young men were arrested. One man was kicking and screaming inside a police vehicle. No other details were available at 8pm last night.

Teenager charged

A TEENAGE girl who was part of a group which allegedly shoplifted T-shirts from a Cairns CBD business has been charged with stealing. Police allegedly found the 14-year-old from Manoora was found in possession of five stolen shirts on June 15 and she was charged over the incident on Monday. She was also charged with wilful damage as a result of investigat­ions into graffiti offences at a Murray St residentia­l complex in early December.

Aircraft to takeoff

A MONSTER Ukrainian aircraft sitting at Cairns Airport will take off on Friday. Cairns Airport announced a revised departure time of 2pm for the Antonov AN124, which is one of the world’s largest aircraft. It was previously scheduled to leave on Saturday.

Fraud charges

A CAIRNS woman has been remanded in custody on fraud charges after she allegedly skipped payment at two hotels earlier this year. Nicole Hannah Richardson did not apply for bail in the Cairns Magistrate­s Court yesterday. It is alleged that Ms Richardson, 29, gained accommodat­ion at a Cairns Esplanade hotel on March 5 and left without making payment. Police located her at another CBD hotel on Sunday. Her matters were adjourned to July 10.
