FIVE Marlins selected in the Netball Queensland Country representative squad shows the strength in Cairns netball, according to Marlins skipper Jacqueline Dupuy.

Marlins Dupuy, Rachel Fa’anana, Eleanor Horsburgh, Leah O’Brien and Akayla Peterson were all selected for the country team to take on City at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre Sports Centre in a threematch series over July 8 and 9. The handful of Marlins booked their spot in the squad after a standout Queensland State Netball League Division 2 season, where they made the finals.

“It is a good indicator of where we were at this season and the quality of players we had across the entire court,” Dupuy said. “We had the depth on our bench too.

“Cairns netball is heading in the right direction and these selections recognise that. It is another good opportunity for us to play at a higher level.”

Marlins coach Winnie Whately will be an assistant coach for the Queensland Country team. Country will be looking to avenge a 3-0 series loss to City in the inaugural series last year.

The new format will be played over one weekend and will include a two-day camp for each side prior to the series.
