Accused of sharing photos of councillor

- ELISABETH CHAMPION

A MISSION Beach couple is facing multiple charges after allegedly sharing explicit photographs of a Cassowary Coast councillor.

Steven and Julianne Toogood faced the Innisfail Magistrates Court on Monday, charged jointly with unlawful stalking and distributing prohibited visual recordings.

Mrs Toogood is also charged with two counts of assaulting or obstructing police.

Police prosecutors told the court that the charges related to the distribution of explicit images of Cassowary Coast councillor Rick Taylor.

Solicitor for Mrs Toogood, Derek Perkins of Queensland Lawyers, applied for an adjournment for case conferencing.

The pair remains under strict bail conditions to not contact Mr Taylor or his family, to not contact staff members of the Cassowary Coast Regional Council in regards to Mr Taylor and to not use the internet to communicate with, publish pictures of, or make comments about Mr Taylor with anyone other than investigative bodies.

Magistrate Cathy McLennan said the bail conditions were unusual and made minor amendments to ensure they were very clear to all parties.

Mr Perkins said the Toogoods were very aware of their obligations.

Mr Toogood, who chose to represent himself, told the magistrate that there were two current investigations by the Queensland Ombudsman and by the Office of Information Commissioner.

Outside the court, a Cassowary Coast Regional Council-spokeswoman denied any such investigation.

The Queensland Ombudsman said it was unable to confirm whether or not an investigation was under way and declined to provide any further comments.

The case was adjourned until July 31.
