An additional celebratio­n was with three Club members winning the jackpot of $950 with great celebratio­n. Frogester won the meat tray raffle. The July 1 Div. 1 pennants played at Cairns saw West Cairns d Cairns 70-57. The first Max Jamison Challenge Cup between West Cairns and Cairns was also played with West Cairns d Cairns by 7 points. The July 1 and 2 Div. 2 pennants competitio­ns between Babinda v Cairns, and Stratford v Cairns were both cancelled due to wet weather. Any outstandin­g Div. 1 and Div. 2 Pennant Team comps will be listed on the Notice Board when notified. Team players are to verify date, times and location of these competitio­ns and advise your Team Captain.

On Tuesday August 1, the club will be hosting a bowls tour club from New Zealand for a friendly competitio­n at the Club arriving at 12pm to meet club members and share in a bowls competitio­n at 1pm (format to be advised). GORDONVALE MEN Thursday: club-selected 3 bowl pairs, ladies welcome. Sunday July 2: Bowlers wives and friends came to the club to celebrate Gordonvale’s win in Division 3 Pennants. Although too wet for bowls to be played, all enjoyed the snacks provided by the ladies and the comradeshi­p pennant badges were presented by President John. Last Thursday rain stopped play so no winners.

July 30: at 10am, AGM of Mens Club followed at 1pm, a Money day sponsored by N Corkill/ INNISFAIL On Monday we saw a game of Club Pairs between S Dunne/G Edgerton and G Anderson/A Morrison completed. This game had previously been interrupte­d by rain with Shane and George well in front. Graham and Alan used the break to regroup and fight back to make a close game of it. The final result was 21-20 in favour of Shane and George. On Thursday we again had a strong field of thirty players despite the threatenin­g skies. The winners on the day were D Lowe/G Spina/M Clifford. The weather played havoc with Pennant matches over the weekend, with two matches being cancelled. On Saturday morning the Division 2 game was moved to South Johnstone as the Innisfail green was too wet. The move proved beneficial as Innisfail recorded a win over West Cairns. On Saturday afternoon Innisfail Division 1 was successful against Edmonton. On Sunday morning a semi-final of the Club Pairs was played. After being down 2-16, Steve Howe and David Leach made a valiant comeback to even up the game but Alf Strano and Alf Siliato were able to hold out to take the match 21-20. MAREEBA & MEMORIAL

Silkwood Bowls Club hosted the FNQDLBA Fours on June 27 and 28. It was an excellent game to watch with Tully defeating South Johnstone on the last end. SOUTH JOHNSTONE South Johnstone’s 1st Division played round 6 of the Pennants Saturday morning against Edmonton Brothers. South Johnstone played a dominant match taking the win on all three rinks and winning the match by 28 shots. South Johnstone then backed up for the afternoon game against Pennant leaders Edge Hill. South Johnstone was able to win two rinks in very tight rinks but went down in the match by 3 shots. South Johnstone invites all club members to the club on Saturday for the final round of Pennants against West Cairns with Social bowls to played and a barbecue. Pennants Game starts at 1pm. Sunday July 2 the Men’s singles champions ended when Kevin Deegan won his semi-final against Shane McInerney 26-21 in the morning then played the final in the afternoon against Kevin Foord, narrowly getting up 25-23. Friday August 4, South Johnstone is holding Twilight Bowls with the night to kick off at 6pm with hotdogs and bowls to start at 6.30pm. STRATFORD BOWLS CLUB The weather has not been kind to us this weekend and so we will complete our Pennants commitment­s next weekend with a game probably on Saturday and Sunday. Thanks to all the men that have put their hand up to represent the club this year it has been an awesome effort and some very good results, well done. Stratford will be celebratin­g our 65th anniversar­y on the July 14 to 16, and would like to invite all bowlers to come down and enjoy the celebratio­ns. Friday evening will be barefoot bowls with a barbecue, Saturday will be a Men’s competitio­n, and hopefully we can organise a mixed competitio­n on the Sunday. Ron Boland and Col Koppen were declared the winners. The West Cairns green which is covered and lit is unaffected by the weather conditions and is available each Monday for our members and any visiting bowlers who are always welcome. Games commence at 1.30pm and last for three hours. Names are required to be recorded on the sheet at the club or can be phoned to our selector Rosemary on 4036 0634 before 11.30am. Visitors are requested to advise their preferred playing position at time of nomination. Final closing time for nomination is 1pm at the club either by phone or visit.
