Triathlon open to all

By Claudia Philp, Trinity Anglican School sports captain, Year 12

-

AT the end of last term, students, parents and friends gathered in the Trinity Anglican School Aquatic Centre to witness the Annual Interhouse Triathlon.

This event is always greatly anticipated with students looking forward to the challenge of the competition and the reward of completing in such a unique, school-based event.

All students from the senior school compete in the triathlon, no matter their sporting background; from those who only use their bike to ride to the shops, to those who train with the TAS Triathlon under the guidance of experienced triathlon coach (and five-times ironman) Michael Haseldine.

The whole TAS community is involved in the event; whether it be cooking snags with the P&F, being a marshal along the 10km bike course or manning a water station along the run course. The triathlon would not be possible without these volunteers. TAS triathlon is an integral component of the senior health and physical education program and the students train to improve their times during class time.

Fierce competition is created as the Year 10-12 HPE students are marked on their performance.

Clearly the training pays off as some impressive times were achieved this year with three school records broken.

Congratulations to Murray Colbridge, Ella Goddard and Emma Simpson for their efforts. The TAS triathlon is an annual event, open to the whole community.

We look forward to next year.
