A FILM fresh out of Gordonvale is set to hit silver screens across the country next month.

Boneyard Run is a daring documentary that follows a rag tag group of Far Northerners determined to make it to the tip of Cape York on a shoestring budget.

Director and producer Rob Dupear said it was a far cry from his usual big budget commercial ventures.

“I discovered the guys when I was up in Cairns filming a Discovery Channel pitch,” he said.

“They were all about 20 and determined to get up Cape York, but they didn’t have any money to do it. Being a city guy I thought that was cool, so I spent a year with them documenting their trip.”

After a further year of postproduction in Gordonvale, the film is now ready to be screened to the masses.

“I’ve shown it to a few people in Sydney who just shook their heads and laughed,” he Check out the trailer on-line said. “I wouldn’t say it’s a family film, it has its nudity and swearing, but it’s a real insight into their culture.”

The film will make its world premiere on Saturday, August 19 at the Mareeba Drive-In after a day of four-wheel-drive markets and competitions.

“Having it at this iconic part of a country town will really give people a feel of what the movie is all about, which is backing their utes up and rolling out swags with some mates to watch it,” Dupear said.

“The guys were part of the process for a year, so they were real keen to get the show on the road and they’re keen to be able to see themselves on the screen.

The film’s production costs were between $300,000 and $500,000.
