MEET the Weipa wizard – Enrico Miller.

Despite having almost no AFL experience prior to playing in a state carnival last month, he has picked up the game quickly.

Next month the fleet-footed runner will represent Queensland at the School Sports Australia Championships in Darwin.

The softly spoken Western Cape College student played a practice game in preparation for the tournament on the Gold Coast this month and continues to impress. Miller is still a bottom age player at this level and AFL Cape York regional manager Rick Hanlon can see his competitive nature grow with every game he plays.

“Enrico has come back bigger and stronger than the first time he went away with the Crusaders,” Hanlon said.

“He was a standout to make the state team.

“His selection as a bottom age player is quite phenomenal when you consider he has (had) limited football opportunities.

“It is an amazing achievement and he will only get better the more footy he plays.”

Miller caught the selectors’ eyes playing for the Cape York Crusaders at the Queensland School Sports Under-12s AFL Championships in Mackay earlier this year.

The Year 6 student is aiming to relocate from Weipa to attend school in Cairns next year.
