A MISSION Beach animal rescue organisation is once again appealing to the community for urgent help.
Frog Safe, which relocated to the town earlier this year, needs a new car to be able to pick up injured amphibians and take them to veterinarians in the region.
President Deborah Pergolotti said the new facility was “paradise” and the team loved operating from the “naturebased location” but a reliable vehicle was a must.
“This is especially so because we are now operating rescue activities from both Cairns and the Mission Beach areas,” she said.
“We hate having to ask for public support again to meet yet another challenge, but the smaller a group is, the less likely it has spare resources to handle life’s glitches.
“Bigger groups have plenty of money in the bank to cover the unanticipated but we are small and live pretty close to a hand to mouth existence.”
The catalytic converter on a vehicle donated by the Lions Club in 2008 needs to be replaced. Ms Pergolotti said the group must find another reliable car in the next two weeks or at least $1000 for the repair.
She said relocation costs in March were crippling and left the organisation with no spare cash.
“Perhaps someone is about to trade in an automatic compact car? Or maybe someone has just had a change in circumstances who no longer needs their car and can help us,” Ms Pergolotti said.
“Or maybe a car yard would give us a really sweet deal on a secondhand automatic as a sponsorship?”
