WEIPA residents are advised the pontoon at Evans Landing boat ramp will be closed for maintenanc­e intermitte­ntly from tomorrow (August 16) until Friday. Access to the boat ramp will be available as normal. FAMILIES on Masig in the Torres Strait will enjoy a fun run on Thursday, August 24. The event is presented by the Gudumadh Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island Health Corp and the theme is Stop Domestic and Family Violence”. Masig, or Yorke, Island is a coral cay in the eastern area of the central island group in the Torres Strait. MOTORISTS on the Mulligan Highway should be aware of roadworks being carried out by the Department of Transport and Main Roads on the McLeod River Bridge, north of Mt Carbine. Crews are expected to be on site daily from 6am until 6pm. APUNIPIMA’S Charkil-Om Primary Health Care Centre celebrates its first anniversar­y this month. Charkil-Om, which means bone fish in local Thanakwith language, provides primary health care to the remote community of Napranum which is about 9km south of Weipa. “We now have a service that meets the needs of Napranum community members,” Traditiona­l Owner and Tackling Indigenous Smoking health worker Ernest Madua Jnr said.
