THE buzz surrounding Aussie Hollywood superstar Chris Hemsworth’s recent trip to Orpheus Island is still continuing and the Far North should reap the benefits.
The Tourism Australia ambassador and Thor actor, wife Elsa Pataky and four of their friends spent last weekend on Orpheus Island for Hemsworth’s 34th birthday.
The group chartered a Nautilus Aviation chopper and posted photos with the crew, as well as plenty of other shots, to Instagram.
Nautilus Aviation chief executive Aaron Finn said Hemsworth had previously cancelled a trip with the company due to a schedule clash.
“It was just a quick trip out to Orpheus but from all accounts he’s a lovely guy, very down to earth and very supportive of the local tourism industry,” he said. “He’s a got a lot of time for north Queensland, which is good to hear.”
Mr Finn said he was still being sent press articles from across the globe following the trip.
“Hopefully we get it again. It’s huge exposure for Orpheus, more so than Nautilus, but it is a great way to put it on the world stage,” he said.
Tourism Tropical North Queensland chief executive Pip Close said Hemsworth’s visit was “priceless” for the region.
“Having a celebrity like Chris, who is an ambassador for the Australian tourism industry, stay on the Great Barrier Reef ... will attract worldwide media attention,” she said. “His visit will inspire others to dream about and hopefully book a Great Barrier Reef holiday.”
Hemsworth described the trip as “one of the best weekends ever”.
