A Cairns children’s haven has entered the burgeoning world of virtual reality, and it’s not just the young ones who are enjoying the cutting-edge technology. A CAIRNS children’s haven has entered the burgeoning world of virtual reality, and it’s not just the young ones who are enjoying the cutting-edge technology.

Monkey Business Playground and Cafe recently invested in a HTC Vice virtual reality kit, expanding upon its cache of kids’ entertainment.

“This technology will be a good test bed … we might end up using the whole upstairs area for virtual reality,” said Monkey Business co-owner Matthew Kneubuhler.

“The experiences it offers are absolutely amazing … it’s certainly the way of the future.”

A recent study found the global virtual/augmented reality market could be worth almost US $30 billion by 2020.

Mr Kneubuhler said while the technology was mainly targeted towards slightly older children, it was also proving a hit with fully fledged adults.

“There was one elderly gentleman, who was using it while carrying his walking stick, and he came out and was absolutely blown away by it,” he said.

Former driving school owners, Mr Kneubuhler and his wife Kate started the Mulgrave Rd business from scratch in April 2015.

“My wife had been planning something like this for a while,” Mr Kneubuhler said.

“We just thought Cairns needed something else for kids.”
