On Cairns crime

From the figures shown in the paper I would not say a 12.5 per cent increase in reported burglaries and a 27 per cent increase in car theft for the first six months of this year compared to the same time last year is not ‘slight’. These figures show we are experiencing an average of 7.6 burglaries and 3.3 car thefts daily at present, which is not a very good statistic. Rod, Mooroobool etc. May he continue his research as he moves into uni. This kind of work is much needed. Edith Crowther, Malanda The world is potentially on the brink of a nuclear war and the government focus is on a plebiscite? The end is coming and a world war would reset many things. David, Whitfield I suggest Shane and The Black Adder (texts, 16/8) make their way down to the next Anzac Day parade and let those altleft thugs know how they feel about Nazis and white extremists. Cathy, Whitfield Matt (16/8). Yours is a straw-man argument as I didn’t use the term “progressive”. But since you did, “progressives” are usually simple folk who have been sucked in by extreme-left activists. Peter Campion, Tolga OK for everyone in the state to get cheaper electricity now that Alinta is entering the market, but what about the north? We only have Ergon, so do we just have to put up the high prices? Wendy, Innisfail Bravo Cairns High for outstanding Mary Poppins show. Anyone who complains about today’s “youth” would do well to see how committed and dedicated the hundreds of students front and back stage were with this production. I am so proud of our young people. They have a very bright future. Terrific staff who made this happen against the odds this year. Anything can happen. Pam, Cairns The Yarra Council in Victoria is rudely disrespecting our culture by banning Australia Day. Any federal funding to them must be stopped immediately. Mic, Cairns The Raine Island turtles (CP, 16/8) are lucky humans invented fossil-fuelled bulldozers to “save” them from natural tidal erosion. Humans are less lucky as we have politicians who don’t care how much of our hard-earned cash is wasted battling natural processes. Miss T, Tolga Peter, Adelaide (15/8). #fakenews. 200,000 refuge intake? We do not take on anywhere close to that. Your opinions on the impacts are also grossly inflated. M, Manoora @mm_newscorpaus Could indigenous program opposition be case of suburb snobbery? And LNP pledges Origin in the North @TheCairnsPost @Jenspilsbury Entsch says Barnaby Joyce ‘solid as a rock’ in Parliament.
