TITANIC SINKING

The worst kept secret in rugby league is out. Gold Coast Titans coach Neil Henry has been sacked but who will be his long-term successor?

-

GOLD Coast has sacked coach Neil Henry with Titans boss Graham Annesley revealing the shock role Jarryd Hayne could play in appointing the club’s next coach.

Annesley fronted the media on Monday to confirm Henry (pictured above) will part ways with the club immediately.

He was informed of the board’s decision on Saturday, two days after the team lost to Parramatta at ANZ Stadium.

Annesley admitted it was an emotional conversation where Henry was told he no longer had a job, following an urgent board meeting last Monday.

“It was a very difficult meeting to have. We obviously have great empathy for Neil and it was probably the toughest thing I’ve had to do at this club,” Annesley said.

“No one wants to see people hurt in any way and there were no black and white answers, as opposed to some of the previous issues we’ve had since I’ve been in this role.

“Everyone feels poorly for Neil and Kath and his family.”

Annesley denied the sacking was a direct result of Henry’s public falling out with superstar player Jarryd Hayne.

But he admitted it played a part in the final decision.

“The board addressed a range of issues, some which we can talk about and some which we can’t,” he said.
