Edge Hill hits all the right notes

THE Edge Hill State School Maroon Choir went on a trip to Brisbane on August 16 to compete in the Creative Generations Voices state finals.

It was an early, but exciting morning when we boarded the plane for a two-hour flight to the capital of Queensland.

We caught the train to Southbank and found our hotel, before walking to the park to play.

After that, we were exhausted!

The next morning we walked along the riverside (beautiful view) and then we rehearsed for our performance.

There, we had an excited lunch, knowing that in an hour and a half’s time, we would be performing at the Queensland Conservatorium of Music.

When that time had passed, we walked to the conservatorium and got on stage. We were first up. The Maroon Choir sang three songs, Wild Mountainside, Jubilate Alleluia and Bamba (sting ray) Hunting.

Then we took our seats and watched the other choirs perform.

We could tell that all of them had rehearsed immensely to achieve their beautiful sound.

We were all on the edge of our seats, waiting for the announcer to declare the winner of the competition.

As soon as he said, “Edge Hill”, I clapped my hands to my mouth and screamed.

Everyone around me was cheering and clapping. It was the best day ever. Since we had won, we got to open the high school section of the competition.

By the time of 9pm, the competition had finished and we went back to our hotel for a well-earned rest.

The next morning was our last day in Brisbane and we went to the Gallery of Modern Art. It was amazing. After that we went to the airport, boarded the plane and went home, where our parents were waiting with a big banner and balloons everywhere at Cairns Airport.
