On federal politics

The Liberals are a smoking ruin, torched by the Turnbull team and our own Mr Entsch. The Libs blew the Abbott gains and are now Labor-lite, sitting left-ofcentre and aiming to please Greens voters. Prepare yourself for the coming economic destruction under Prime Minister Shorten. Higgs, Tolga Isn’t it funny that the Liberals speak long and loud that their members have a free vote and Labor don’t. Yet they threaten to disendorse members who try to force a vote on SSM. This is all about religious factions dictating policy of this once mighty party. Bit like the tail wagging the dog. Maggie, Kanimbla Heights Yes, the people finally have a party that actually listens to grassroots concerns and tries to do something about it. Refer to the inquiry into child support thanks to One Nation’s pushing and pushing. It’s only the beginning. Beth, Kanimbla more crime. Well done. Maurice, Manunda Re: welfare card for those who fail drug tests. The card should be for all those on the dole and other benefits. That money is provided by someone else working hard and should never be used for anything other than the basic necessities. Joanne, Mt Sheridan couples going through the same rituals as heterosexual couples do. But, I do have a major problem in regards to adoption. Icarus, Atherton The D’Aietti family would like to thank all the people who stopped on Sunday, August 13, near the Edge Hill Bowls Club to assist with a bad car accident involving our 11-year-old son. Our family is very grateful for all the assistance provided. A huge thank you to the paramedics, police and medical staff in the emergency department at Cairns Hospital. Karen, Brinsmead I used echinacea tabs for 30-plus years and it works brilliantly. Never failed for sinus, colds, flus, infections, pre-travel and after, and pre-surgery. As soon as you sneeze take two. Only one side effect, you feel thirsty, so drink extra water. FluFree, FNQ Queensland can be extremely embarrassed at our archaic over the top liquor lock out laws. This ID debacle is ludicrous. There has to be a better way. Sue, Edge Hill The great pyramid race last Saturday, when Jimmy Hilton took a wrong turn on descent. I myself have walked the Pyramid four times. The track from halfway up should be marked as it is very easy to take a wrong turn. Coming down is extra confusing and markers would be a great help. Judy Pearcey, Trinity Beach @mm_newscorpaus Paul Kelly is coming to Cairns in November. @TheCairnsPost @DanaellaWivell
