Shaun not sheepish about Bali breakout

- CINDY WOCKNER

BALI jail escapee Shaun Davidson has revealed for the first time why he tunnelled out of Kerobokan prison, how he fears being shot dead by Indonesian police if caught in the country and that he just wants to get on with his life.

Davidson told News Corp he fled jail in Bali with just 10 weeks of his sentence left because he had no faith in the Australian justice system and the courts in Perth to deal fairly with his case.

“I just want to live the rest of my life happily I’ve retired and arnt (sic) doing anything that affects anyone else badly I’m living a normal life in a new place and am happy doing so,” Davidson said.

Upon completion of his Bali sentence, for using another man’s passport and immigration offences, he would have been immediately deported to Perth to face outstanding drugs charges.

Davidson apologised to Indonesia for his escape and said he was happy that Indonesian authorities believed he was still in the country.

On Facebook Messenger, Davidson, or someone purporting to be him, using the identity Shaun Rageone Davidson, yesterday answered a series of questions from News Corp shortly after checking in on Facebook in Barbados.

It is the same Facebook account Davidson was using while in jail prior to his escape and where he held Facebook live chats with outsiders.

Davidson said yesterday claims by Bali’s police chief this week that the fugitive was still in Indonesia, somewhere on the border with East Timor, were good news for him.

“I’m not looking over my shoulder constantly where I am,” he said. “This isn’t even news.” His most recent post was a mock-up of a Shawshank Redemption movie poster, with Davidson superimposed next to legendary actor Morgan Freeman.
