Eagles aim for triple in massive day of footy

- AFL CAIRNS JORDAN GERRANS

THE Far North’s best emerging Aussie rules talent will be on show this Sunday for the AFL Cairns Junior Grand Final day.

A total of six games will be played back-to-back, with the under-11s kicking it off in the morning before the Colts finish off the massive day of footy under lights.

The Colts will be the showpiece of the six games, with the Cape York Eagles shooting for three straight flags at the level.

The Eagles ended the dream undefeated home-andaway season of Centrals Trinity Beach last week and will tackle the Manunda Hawks for the 2017 premiership.

Alex Davies, who claimed Youth Player of the Year this week, will lead the Hawks while Reg Lillywhite Medallist for Colts best and fairest Fitzroy Greenwool will be one to watch for the Eagles.

Eagles coach Rick Hanlon believes his squad have found their rhythm over the last month after finishing third on the ladder.

“We will have a couple of things that we will do to make it harder for Hawks but we just want them to play footy, that is what they have done all year,” Hanlon said.

“The last four or five weeks have had all the boys available and it has really come together.

“We have had competitive games all year against Hawks.

“We are pretty even so we will try to play our normal style of footy.”

The junior finals kick off at Cazalys Stadium from 9.30am on Sunday with the Colts grand final between Cape York Eagles and Manunda Hawks starting at 5.45pm.
