On same-sex marriage

-

Religion aside, if two men or two women wish to live together, good luck to them. However, to my mind one of the outcomes of marriage between a man and a woman is the propagation of the human species. If the yes vote succeeds, in law what would be the definition of consummation of marriage, adultery, grounds for divorce? Would there be an effect on Australia’s birthrate? Jefferson, Cairns North Will the voting slip on the same-sex marriage plebiscite actually have a “no” box? David, Woree Network (CP 29/8). Great. They’ll be in competition with our ABC to see who can be Australia’s most extreme-left network. Higgs, Tolga AussieBrian (CP, 29/8) Australia Day was chosen as it was the day in 1788 when Captain Phillip arrived at Sydney Cove and raised the Union flag symbolising British occupation. Previous explorers had discovered the land as far back as 1606 but not claimed it. Captain Cook first sailed along the east coast in 1770, naming Botany Bay. Moreton Bay etc. He landed on Possession Island in the name of the King of England. Bev Prescott, Atherton To become a republic we must change our constitution. How can we trust this bunch of rabble to do that? Grey Ray, Holloways Beach Floyd Mayweather is a boxer, not a mixed martial artist. There will be no rematch. Conor wanted his $100 million. That’s why he fought the boxing code. Andrew, Cairns Re: vandals damage infant graves. There is only one word to describe these vandals: “Scum”. Doug, White Rock It’s about time this citizenship issue ends. If a person was born in Australia they are Australian citizens irrespective of where their parents were born. How much is this crap costing the taxpayer? Graham, Bungalow Bob Brooks, Gordonvale. Regarding your letter to the editor (28/8). Well said and I cannot agree more. Do the Queensland authorities have any idea what they are doing (right or wrong) except trying to do something to justify their own jobs in far off Brisbane. Could they explain why the burn off on Walsh’s Pyramid? Helen Greg, Edmonton Hayley (28/8). Crocodiles first, indigenous first, who cares? We are one people and we need to kill crocodiles until they stay away from us. I seriously hate to tell you, but the greatest majority of the population have had a gutful of minority groups whingeing. Bill, Mooroobool The iconic sound of summer is back in Cairns. “Woo-hoos”. The Torres Strait pigeon has landed in Earlville. JR, Earlville Not again. Higgs and Black Adder still the same sad song: “We hate the left”. Give us all a break. Paddy, Mt Sheridan
