New home opens with state-of-the-art facilities

-

KEWARRA Aged Care has opened its doors.

The new aged care home is at Kewarra Beach, next to Kewarra Retirement Village, and can provide accommodation for more than 90 residents in comfort and style.

Business development manager Joyce Stephan says a priority was placed on “ageing in place” and creating a home-like environment and a sense of community.

“The home is a single-level dwelling, making it easy for residents to access outdoor spaces and the central common areas,” she says.

“It has been designed to capture plenty of natural light, with large glass windows that look out to landscaped gardens.

“The open-plan design in the lounge and living areas, the modern artwork pieces and the touches of timber have all added to creating a relaxed and attractive setting for residents to enjoy.”

The home features spacious suites with large bathrooms, a café for residents to enjoy with friends and family, a hairdressing salon, an area for arts, crafts and lifestyle activities, a private dining room for special occasions and a variety of lounge areas with large-screen TVs.

There are also landscaped courtyards and terraces where residents can enjoy fresh air and sunshine and a centrally-located social hub in the heart of the home, providing space for activities and entertainment.

One of Kewarra Aged Care’s first residents, Eric, is settled in and loving it.

He and wife Margaret have been together for 57 years but when Eric became unwell, Margaret made the difficult decision to find an aged care home where Eric could get the support he needed with day-today living.

When she heard about Kewarra Aged Care opening, she decided to apply and move Eric closer to her.

“Our daughter and family are only a few minutes away and it just makes it so much easier,” Margaret says.

“It takes me six minutes to drive here, which is wonderful.”

As well as convenience, Margaret wanted peace of mind knowing that Eric would be cared for within a safe, comfortable and nurturing environment.

She was particular in ensuring Eric’s daily care needs could be met, as he also has difficulty walking.

“The staff at Kewarra Aged Care has been really good at taking care of him,” she says.

“They have been attending to his showering, dressing and his wounds.”

Margaret says Eric is happy to call Kewarra Aged Care home – a place where he feels safe, cared for and part of a community.
