JORDAN’S AIR — QBL GRAND FINAL WRAP CAIRNS LIKES IT LOUD

-

CHEERY TURN FOR SHAUN

I HOPE Brisbane Bullets coach Andre Lemanis (left) was not watching the stream of game two of the QBL grand final series.

His point guard, Shaun Bruce, went down with an ankle injury just six minutes into game one and was not able to play in the second and third games of the series.

In a moon boot and on crutches, Bruce was the chief bench celebrator for Mackay, especially on Saturday night when they were well on top. I think Lemanis would have hoped he sat quietly and rested that ankle but Bruce could not help cheering his side on.

SPARTANS PREVAIL

ON THE girls’ side of it, the Brisbane Spartans cut down the nets after winning two close games over the Mackay Meteorettes.

The Spartans claimed the first game 76-74 before securing the title on Saturday night with a 70-66 victory.

Aja Parham and Ashleigh Karaitiana starred for the Spartans over the two games.

WILCHER’S A WONDER

IT would be interesting to see if Townsville Heat point guard Josh Wilcher would get an NBL job if there were more teams in the league.

The former Melbourne Tigers development player (right) got the best of the point guard battle against Cairns last weekend and while Shaun Bruce was hurt, he dominated Mackay in the grand final. Wilcher is short and a little bit unconventional but he gets in the lane almost whenever he wants and shoots it well from deep.

MARK Jensen, coach of Whittier College, which went up against the Cairns Taipans Academy on Tuesday night, had a few interesting remarks during the game.

Whittier must not be used to playing in loud, big gyms.

Jensen kept telling his players to get settled and not get distracted by the loud music inside the Fish Tank.

The music was no different to a regular QBL game but seemed a huge surprise to the travellers.
