Fashion fans have a ball at big soiree

- ALICIA NALLY

AFTER spending months preparing outfits for this weekend’s series of Cairns Amateurs Festival events, Cairns ladies did not hold back on colour, style or elegance at yesterday morning’s annual high tea event.

Held on the Esplanade for the first time, organiser Pip Miller said the soiree was a fresh way to kick off the region’s biggest racing carnival.

Ladies enjoyed canapés and champagne from 11am until mid-afternoon.

“It was a really good venue having it on the Esplanade, it’s nice to change it up and it will be a wonderful venue for tonight’s ball,” she said.

“There was plenty of smiles and laughter and chatter and women talking about their outfits.

“It surprises me that Cairns women go to such trouble because, not that it needs to be an expensive process, but it’s also often a time-consuming process.

“They do put a great amount of effort into it.”

Fashion parade co-ordinator and stylist Pip Addison showcased more than 20 retailers at the Cairns Central-sponsored high tea using eight past and present Faces of Cairns Central models.

“We showcased lots of different looks in everything from Myer, Bardot, Target, Country Road and Suzanne Grae,” she said. “I really wanted to provide a taste of everything.”
