THE postponement of Gordonvale’s second annual Animal Education Day has proved a positive move with even more organisations signing up.
Organiser Nicola Millen changed the event from April this year after heavy rain made Norman Park unusable.
She said the day had grown and would now feature 70 stalls.
The Animal Education Day is a free family event on September 23 from 8am-1pm and will feature everything to do with animals, including information from animal aid organisations, vets, feed shops and suppliers, reptile handlers, pest eradicators and government departments.
“This is wonderful, we have got two overseas organisations on board this year, the Sumatran orang-utan group and an Asian and African elephant group,” she said.
“Someone has a friend on Sea Shepherd and they’ve expressed interest in coming next year.
“From the growth rate, I’m blown away. It looks like it will turn into an animal organisation expo in the future, not straight away, though.”
Ms Millen said she started the day because of the number of animal organisations based in the town and the lack of events nearby.
“There has been nothing for young people and for older people so I set out to redress the balance,” she said.
“Gordonvale has that lovely shady Norman Park, and the other reason Gordonvale is good, we have so many animal organisations around here.”
The event will feature live music by Lucky Phil, petting zoos and market stalls.
There will also be a dress-up parade for kids and pets at 12.30pm.
