More than $1 billion in spending fasttracked by the Palaszczuk government (CP, 6/9). Nothing like more debt to fix a debt problem, right? The stupidity is so thick it could be cut with a knife. Mic, Cairns

Nine dollars for a plastic cup of beer at the Cairns races. What a joke. Jon, Cairns Cairns Post, September 4 article, page 1. Souls are being fed, souls are being saved ... Out of the depths of depression I came, at living light I was received. This is your life ... come on down. John K, Aumuller St

Opinions sometimes stink. But it seems like you are only allowed one if you are a minority group or politically correct. Catherine, Mooroobool

I visited the magnificent stingray art work on the Esplanade. I am very concerned about unsupervised children climbing all over the slippery back drop sculpture. CRC, if these children fall on concrete, they will be killed or badly injured. We need a sign: “You climb here at your own risk” or we the ratepayer will be up for another compensation claim. Seriously concerned citizen, Cairns

Excellent to see the mainstream media is belatedly waking up to the fact that solar and wind can’t power the grid. Now they just need to work out who inflicted this costly scam on us. Higgs, Tolga

Shane Barret (letters 5/9), way to quote statistics to suit your message. Deaths in Europe due to diesel fumes. You forgot to quote diesel vehicles make up more than 50 per cent of vehicles in Europe. Here in Australia they make up 22.2 per cent (Bureau of Statistics figures). Big difference. Not to mention the massive smaller number of vehicles we have here. More greeny alarmist ranting. Steven, Westcourt
