Hawks see promising future with Harbrow
MANUNDA have put their faith in current coach Marc Harbrow with the club extending his tenure for another two AFL Cairns seasons.
The fresh two-year deal was announced at training last night as the club prepare for tomorrow afternoon’s grand final against the unbeaten Port Douglas Crocs.
Harbrow, a Hawks junior and premiership player, has led the club to a steep rise up the ladder, just missing out on the finals in his first year in charge before sending the club to a grand final in year number two.
The Hawks committee made the decision to extend Harbrow’s stay at the club before the finals and have been justified with the club winning two finals since.
“Marc brings the stability we need in the coaching ranks and we have decided he is our man to go forward with,” Hawks president Richard Martin said.
“He is prepared to work and develop with the kids we have.”
Harbrow, older brother of Gold Coast Sun Jarrod, is always keen to learn and was assistant to Brad Cooper for the North Queensland representative team as well as coaching the Indigenous and South Pacific All Stars.
“He is not satisfied just to be a Manunda Hawks senior coach, he has put his hand up to get involved in representative footy,” Martin said.
“He searches to improve himself as a coach and that is one of the main reasons we have gone with the two-year option as we can see growth with him.”
Harbrow took the reins after the Cazalys-based club was sensationally booted from the Seniors and Reserves competitions.
He also coached at Cairns City Lions before taking control of the Hawks’ Colts side.
Harbrow’s extension leaves South Cairns as the only club in the Far North with their coaching position yet to be filled for the 2018 season.
