FROM PNG WITH A LOT OF LOVE
TOM VOLLING SINGING has taken Kylena Vigus from Papua New Guinea highlands to towns and cities across Australia for the past three decades.
The PNG-born musician started as a 17-year-old when she established a band called Blue Experience in Adelaide.
It was there the folk singer supported the likes of Powderfinger, Tumbleweed and TISM.
Most gigs were in soul and rock bands until 2014, when she moved to Far North Queensland.
She is now in Cairns plying her trade at iconic venues such as The Tanks Art Centre and The Hambledon Hotel.
After going to jam nights and meeting musicians like Ben Anderson, who plays rhythm, lead, vocals and stomp box, she formed RAW Sugar. She recently performed in
at the Cairns Convention Centre.
Her current act is called Kylena and she hopes to collaborate with a variety of musicians.
My originals are mostly folk and pop, but I’m currently doing covers until I have enough for an EP. ... composed by Michael Stearns.
Pink … those powerhouse vocals while doing stunts – I went three times to the same show. Easy, at Cairns Convention Centre 2017.
