Bridge work boost

COOK Shire and Douglas Shire Councils have received a boost for various bridge projects as part of round three of the Federal Government’s Bridges Renewal Program. Douglas Shire Council will receive $1,339,250 in funding for the Diggers Bridge Replacemen­t Project, while Cook Shire Council will receive a total of $108,330 towards constructi­on of the King River Bridge approaches and replacemen­t of the Claudie River Bridge approaches. Federal Member for Leichhardt Warren Entsch said he had worked closely with the two councils to identify key bridges in need of replacemen­t or upgrade.

Dive into summer fun

TO celebrate summer and the warmer weather, Cooktown Pool will be open from 5.30am to 6pm every weekday and 1pm to 6pm on weekends. Locals are encouraged to take advantage of the increased opening times at the pool. A range of classes are also held throughout the week, including adult swim squad at 5pm on Monday, senior swan squad on Wednesday from 10.15am, toddlers water introducti­on on Thursday at 10am, aqua aerobics at 12pm on Saturdays, underwater hockey on Sundays at 4pm, and Swim 4 Your Life Senior Aqua Aerobics on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 9am.

Digital business grant

TWO Kowanyama businesses will be able to give their customers better access to Wi-Fi thanks to funding from the State Government’s Small Business Digital Grants. Kowanyama Sport and Recreation Inc received $3120 towards the installati­on of Wi-Fi hot spots in the Blue Cafe and the Kowanyama Canteen, while Kowanyama Hire received $1285 towards installati­on of a Wi-Fi hotspot at the River House guesthouse.
