* INSPIRING YOUNG GUNS

- JACOB GRAMS

THERE will be no love lost between cousins on Sunday but these Cowboys and Storm fans will take lessons from stars on both sides into their own budding footy careers.

Grace Kennedy loves Johnathan Thurston but Michael Morgan is her new favourite No.7 and she said his different style was helping to improve her game and would win the Cowboys the 2017 title.

“I play club footy for Ed- monton and rep for Peninsula in the same position,” she said.

“They’ve made it a long way without Thurston and I’m a bit surprised by that. But Michael Morgan has really stepped up.

“Hopefully they can win another one.”

Kennedy said there would be nervous silence while watching the game on Sunday, until the Cowboys scored.

“If the Cowboys win I’ll rub it into her a bit,” she said.

Vanessa Scarborough also plays club football with the Storm and is backing the NRL club of the same name.

She said watching Billy Slater had given her some strategies in attack and defence to help her in the outside backs.

The girls, both 12, will play in an all-girls competition next season, with organisers planning under-12, under-14, under-16 and under-18 girls’ competitions in 2018.

Interested players are urged to register their interest with their local club.
