Classic songs dazzle El-town

-

DEAR Sir Elton,

Thank you.

I know I’m not alone when I say I’ve grown up listening to your music, hit after hit playing throughout the house; everyone from Mum and Dad to the youngest in the house of six (that would be me) loving your songs.

From the moment you walked out onto the massive stage at Cazalys on Saturday night in your trademark glamour – glittering glasses, white coat sparkling with roses and diamantés and pants – you had the crowd in the palm of your incredibly gifted hands. Resplendent in white, it was difficult to decide if you were rock royalty or a musical angel that had descended onto the Far Northern tropics.

With your friend Kay – the mighty Yamaha grand piano – you shared your gift belting out favourite tune after favourite tune, moving effortlessly and seamlessly to softer more classical tunes showcasing the depth of your incredible talent.

Your rendition of Waltzing Matilda added a touch of class to the sheep thief tale never heard before and when you lamented the crazy times we live in you were met with cheers echoing your sentiments.

You didn’t let the sun go down on your good friend George Michael and when you walked out for your encore to sing Candle in the Wind wearing the NQ Cowboys scarf the Cairns Post shipped up from Townsville for you, you brought the star ceiling down. What a class act. You would have to agree, Sir Elton, that Cazalys, the council and Cairns turned it on for you; the extravaganza went off without a hitch providing your fans with even more great memories. Thanks for coming to El-town — Saturday night was more than all right with us.
