GET OUT ON THE WATER BEFORE IT’S TOO HOT

-

OCTOBER is already on us and it’s a great time of the year to be on the water targeting a wide range of species before summer arrives and the water temperature skyrockets.

Barramundi and mangrove jacks will be super active this month and definitely worth targeting on lures in most of the southern major rivers like the Mulgrave, Russell, Tully, Murray to name a few, along with Hinchinbrook Channel.

Look to fish the gutters with shallow running lures like gold bombers, Lead’s Hi-Jackers, and Jackson Athlete’s.

The heavy timber will produce on diving lures like Lead’s Shads, Mann’s Boof Baits, Classic F18 Manta Ray’s and the deep holes with soft plastic vibes and jigs like the Zman Swimmez. Reef fishing is also in its prime with coral trout, spangled emperor and nannygai all feeding up before spawning.

Once the water gets too hot they tend to become far less aggressive in the feeding patterns and a little lethargic.

The freshwater is prime to target small barra, mangrove jacks, tarpon, sooty grunter and jungle perch on small minnows and poppers.

Tinaroo Dam will see the monster barra also stir and become more active with metreplus fish being caught regularly.

The next couple of months leading up to the full moon are most productive.

Get out on the water and enjoy what October offers in hot fishing action now.
