Wanderers keen to keep momentum going

-

IT’S very exciting to have the season finally kick-off on Sunday against Perth Glory at home at Spotless Stadium.

It’s always a long off-season in the Hyundai A-League so I’m looking forward to getting back into the swing of things.

The boys have worked very hard over the last 15 weeks and now it’s time to put that into action and also continue what we’ve been doing in the Westmomentum field FFA Cup.

We’ve done well to progress to the semis in the Cup so hopefully we can keep that into Sunday.

It’s all about points now so that’s all we’ll be thinking about come kick-off.

It’s been a big week with Popa leaving and obviously there will be a bit of an adjustment with things.

As a playing group though we’re focused and we’re going to play the same style that we’ve been working on so far. going heading

It’d be crazy to change things now so it’s about having the right reaction and backing ourselves and the preparation that we’ve put in over the last few months.

Regardless of what’s happened in pre-season, everything is wiped away when the season starts off.

It’s all about continuing the winning culture that’s been ingrained in the club and that’s one thing that can’t change.

For me personally, moving away from my family on the Gold Coast and coming to Western Sydney has been a big sacrifice but I’m here for a reason.

I want to bring success to Western Sydney and to give back to the region where I started my career.

I played a game at Marconi Stadium the other week and it was a bit emotional returning after almost 15 years.

I’ve also been visiting my old university and all the places where I first starred when I was a teenager.

For me that’s a really good feeling to be able to give something back. Michael Thwaite started his football career as a junior in Cairns. He’ll be a regular columnist for the Cairns Post throughout the A-League season.
