Rising to bake challenge

Lachlan Camilleri, Year 5, Our Lady Help of Christians

-

YUMMY. Yummy.

Last month the Year 5 students at Our Lady Help of Christians had a no-bake sale so they could learn about finance.

The money raised was given to charity.

Linda Mann-Jones gave $20 to every group to buy the equipment and ingredients needed for cooking.

The Year 5 students needed to make $20 to give back to Mrs Mann-Jones and make some profit to give to charity.

The Year 5 students chose groups then they decided what to make for the no-bake sale.

Then they had to search up what would be required for the recipe.

After that they had to go on Coles online and see how much it would all cost.

They made a list of all the ingredients and equipment they needed so Mrs MannJones could purchase the ingredients and equipment needed.

On September 4, the Year 5 students went to the kitchen near the Prep area and cooked their own mouth-watering treats.

All you could hear was people talking to each other to get an ingredient or piece of equipment. There were people walking and running around to get what they needed.

There was so much laughter and everyone was having fun.

On Wednesday, the fun began. At about 9am, the Year 5 students went to the Prep area and finished off preparing the treats that they had cooked.

Then they got the tables set up to put their treats on.

Finally, at 10.30am everyone from Prep to Year 6 started to walk around and see what they could buy.

There were so many delicious treats it was so hard to choose.

At 11am, everyone had to stop buying treats, however, nearly every group got everything sold.

Altogether, the Year 5 students raised $587.75 to go to charity.

Don’t forget each of the groups had to return the $20 that Mrs Mann-Jones gave to each group for the equipment and ingredients.

Everyone had big smiles at the end of the sale.
