School ready to mark milestone

-

PAST and current students of Yorkeys Knob State School will have the chance to connect and share stories as the Far North school celebrates its 60th anniversary.

Yorkeys Knob State School started in 1957, at the now community centre, and relocated to its current location at 41 Clinton St in 1979.

The primary school’s P&C association will host a family fun day on November 4 to celebrate the milestone.

P&C treasurer Deb Stahlhut encouraged all past and current students, as well all members of the community, to go along and celebrate one of the oldest state schools in the Northern Beaches area.

“We really just wanted to celebrate, it’s a bit of a milestone,” she said.

“We’re about the fun side of learning and what better way to celebrate than with a family fun day.

“We’ve managed to get some older photos of students and teachers that we’ll put together for a display.

“In some of the old photos it shows that the cross country was held along the beach, which is a bit different to today.

“We will also have a display with some of the projects P&C has run for the school over the years.”

Ms Stahlhut said the school currently had more than 240 students, some of whom would be helping out at the family fun day.

There will be food available as well as market stalls, school and historical displays and kids fun zone.

“It’s a great little community,” she said.

“We’re hoping to raise some money for our school on the day.

“Our focus for the next few years is getting a covered walk way for the students.” Anyone interested in holding a stall at the family fun day can contact Sarah on 0405 643 220 or email secretary.ykccpandc@outlook.com
