Colourful end to celebrations

By Zara Stevens, Year 5, Holy Cross School

-

RED, yellow, blue, purple and green are some of the colours that filled our school and our clothes on Holy Cross Day.

Every year on Holy Cross Day, we have a little colour run. It is so much fun and you can hear laughter around the school.

If you would like to participate in the colour run you must be willing to donate to raise money for our school’s church.

Before we do the colour run, we have a Holy Cross Day mass, which this year Bishop James celebrated.

Bishop James was also celebrating his 25th year of being Cairns’ Bishop.

So congratulations on your 25th year Bishop James.

Before lunch we all got an ice cream.

In the second session, every class in the school did an activity in memory for the 30th year anniversary.

In 5S, they did a scrapbooking activity with pictures of their principal, Sarah Hamilton and photos of the school and made a little souvenir for the school’s 30year anniversary.

In the last session of the day, we finally had our school colour run.

The Year 5 and Year 1 students went first, buddying up and they did about four to six laps around the Year 1 and 2 soccer field.

When I was doing the colour run I got so coloured my skin was turning red and blue; it was very entertaining to watch the other classes do the colour run.

Next went Year 4 and Year 2 students.

Then to finish it off the Year 6, Year 3 and the Prep students went last.

After the colour run everyone in the school started singing and dancing to the songs that were playing over the loudspeaker.

What a way to finish a day on the 30th anniversary at Holy Cross.

All too quickly it was over. My classmates and I wanted to go back in time to repeat the whole day again. I cannot wait till next year.

I do not know how they are going to top this colour run next year, but I know they will.

I would like to say thanks to the Year 6 students who helped set up and Brad Henry, Jacinta Roberts and Sarah Hamilton for organising the colour run and mass.

Thanks also to all the parents that came to help out.

Thank you also to the school’s first principal Bob Scileroni who attended the Holy Cross mass and everyone else who pitched in.
